The Department of Transport and Public Works (DTPW) took part in the Green Building Council of South Africa’s (GBCSA) 15th Annual Green Building Convention in Cape Town from 2 to 4 November 2022.

The theme for this year’s event was “Join the Re-generation Movement”, the focus having shifted from sustainability to regeneration and renewal in the built environment.

Rene Kok, DTPW Chief Director: Health Infrastructure says that her team has been supporting the Green Building Convention for the past 10 years. "We set the precedent and an example as an industry on why sustainability is important not just for current generations but especially for our future generations," says Ms Kok.

“It is an opportunity for my teams to learn about the latest technology, the latest materials, the latest development, network, connect with industry professionals both nationally and internationally, learn new trends and just ensure that their local knowledge is really kept up to date on the latest standards,” she added.

DTPW staff contributed to broadening knowledge and expanding thinking at this year’s Convention by addressing plenary sessions, mounting exhibitions, and showcasing sustainability and regenerative technology including the Western Cape Government’s Electric Vehicle Strategy and Property Efficiency Report.
