On Wednesday, 18 October 2023, the Western Cape Government Mobility Department, in partnership with Overstrand Local Municipality, launched a Junior Traffic Training Centre (JTTC) at Hawston Primary School near Hermanus.
A JTTC is a simulated road environment where children can learn to use road safely and responsibly without being exposed to life-threatening traffic hazards. At the launch, Willie van der Merwe, Director: Road Safety Management delivered a brief overview of the project. “This JTTC will allow learners to learn about road safety in a play environment”, he said.
“Thank you to the Department for bringing this project to Overberg, especially in Hawston” said Lindile Ntsabo, Deputy Mayor: Overstrand Local Municipality. “When I was growing up, we never had these opportunities as children. I hope that the learners will make a good use of this JTTC”, he added.
