Notice of road closures due to the periodic maintenance of MR552, MR546 & DR2220 near Lutzville
Main Road 552 Km 0.000 Lutzville to Km 24.24 Vredendal (Commonly known as Hol Rivier road) & Main Road 546 Km 37.45 to Km 54.54 (Commonly known as Strandfontein road) & Divisional Road (DR2220) will have 24/7 stop/go’s from 31 October 2023 to 15 December 2023. The public is requested to be patient and exercise caution when using the road.
The project is located near the towns of Lutzville and Vredendal in the West Coast District Municipality of the Western Cape.
The project forms part of the WCG’s objective to upgrade, rehabilitate and maintain provincial road in the Western Cape Province. The periodic maintenance of the specific project includes the following works; crack sealing and rut filling, asphalt surface and base patching, the application of a slurry texture seal to the entire extent of the road section, cleaning out of drains, reinstating road signs and road markings.
The contract has been awarded to Actophambili Roads (Pty) Ltd in November 2022 and the commencement date was 5 May 2023. The contract period is approximately 11 months, including public holidays, with the expected completion date being 4 April 2024.
Traffic will be accommodated on the existing roads through 27/7 stop/go control and one-way traffic. It is a provision of the contract that traffic shall be accommodated with the least delay and discomfort to the public. No full road closures will be allowed. The safety and convenience of the travelling public are of utmost importance and every effort will be made to ensure that all temporary road signs, flagmen and speed controls are maintained and are effective, and that courtesy is extended to the public at all times. The Contractor is required to make use of approved methods to control the movement of his equipment and vehicles so as not to constitute a hazard on public roads. The public is requested to be patient and exercise caution when using the road.
