Brand-new Gouda Clinic offers comprehensive healthcare to more than 10 000 residents in the community

On June 5th, Western Cape Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr Nomafrench Mbombo, officially opened the brand-new R17.9 million Gouda Clinic.

The new clinic replaces the former semi-detached house – the former Gouda Clinic – which was converted into a clinic. Due to increased demand and insufficient space for expansion, it was decided that building a new clinic will be the most viable option. In doing so, the new clinic now offers additional space and waiting areas for residents. The additional space also offers the possibility for further additions or alterations in the future.

In 2017, the Drakenstein Municipality identified the land suitable upon which the new clinic could be located. Since then, there have been detailed and inclusive deliberations with all stakeholders so that comprehensive health care services would be offered to the community for the foreseeable future.

Good on-site management was maintained throughout the project ensuring that it was completed ahead of time.

Gouda Clinic is also equipped with a generator, which will ensure that there is uninterrupted power supply for the facility.

Gouda Clinic offers the following services to residents:

  • Mother and Child Health;
  • Chronic Diseases Care;
  • Women’s Health;
  • Men’s Health;
  • HIV and TB Care; and
  • Additional Acute Services

The Facility Manager, Cynthia Johannes, added that: “The new clinic has had a positive impact on the community, as residents now have proper space to wait in; they are no longer in an open area as was the case in the previous facility. There are also convenient consultation rooms. We are very appreciative of this addition because we can now continue giving quality care with dignity to the people of Gouda.”

Minister Mbombo concluded by saying: “Clinics play an important role in our communities. This new facility is poised to serve the Gouda community, which has almost doubled in less than a decade. As a department, we are committed to the rollout of quality infrastructure as our facilities are the vehicle through which we deliver services to residents. I look forward to the greater impact Gouda Clinic will have both now and in the future.”
