Bringing Positive Change To After School Programmes

On Sunday 19 November 2017, the Western Cape Government, in partnership with Stellenbosch University (SU), Community Chest and Rutgers University-Newark (USA), proudly launched the Extended Education Practitioners Training Programme.

The Western Cape After School Innovation Fund has been established to seed new ideas in the extended education sector. It is specifically designed to finance innovative ideas which will expand the cohort of learners in After School Programmes, improve learner retention in programmes and build a culture of extended education in our no-fee and low-fee schools. The fund is run by Community Chest, and seed funded by the Western Cape Government After School Game Changer.

On Friday evening, Premier Helen Zille presented the After School Leadership Excellence Award to principals who are leading the way in providing creative and dynamic after school programmes at their schools. Mr Roy van Rooyen of Rietenbosch Primary School is this year’s gold prize winner and was awarded R20 000 in prize money. A commendation award was also presented to Principal Mathipa Poopedi from Sinethemba Secondary School in Browns Farm, Philippi.
