The Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport’s After School Programme has been recognised for its innovative approach in tackling socio-economic challenges in the Western Cape.The programme won the Chairman’s Award at the Impumelelo Social Innovation Awards on Sunday 10 November for its work in building capacity in the sector and the Extended Education Practitioners’ Training Programme run in partnership with Stellenbosch University. This past weekend, the Western Cape Education Department awarded the 2019 Leadership Excellence Award in After School Programming to Mr Andrew Groeneveld from New Orleans Secondary School in Paarl. The Leadership Excellence Award in After School Programming recognises exceptional principals who’ve fostered strong, effective programmes at their schools through focused leadership. It’s an initiative of the After School Programme Office, and gold, silver and bronze honours are awarded.

The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) calls on school communities to nominate Principals for the After School Leadership Excellence Award. Excellence in After School Programming relies on strong leadership and school buy-in. Principals who demonstrate passion and innovation in motivating their school team to provide creative, dynamic and interesting After School Programming to their learners may be nominated for this prestigious award.
