CALL TO ORGANISATIONS AND COMPANIES WHO OWN AND OPERATE FREE-TO-USER DIGITAL PLATFORMS, OFFERING ONLINE SERVICES IN THE AREAS OF WORK READINESS, CAREER PATHING, PLACEMENT OPPORTUNITIES, AND RELATED NON-TECHNICAL SKILLS, AIMED AT YOUTH IN THE WESTERN CAPE

The WCG Department of Economic Development & Tourism (DEDAT) aims to improve the digital literacy of citizens, particularly youth,  to increase their access and use of technology towards improving levels of work readiness and stimulate entrepreneurial activities.  The Department is currently implementing a digital skills initiative in rural areas of the Western Cape to support and empower citizens. While digital skills are important in general, our experience suggests that this needs to be coupled with support to make youth more prepared to enter the job market and develop entrepreneurial skills.

Digital skills and non-technical (‘soft’) skills are increasingly becoming an important requirement for effective participation in the job market and the general economy. However, the growing divide between those with skills, and those without, remains a significant barrier across the Province and South Africa.

Accordingly, the WCG Department of Economic Development & Tourism  is seeking information from like-minded parties offering free-to-user virtual/digital services to the public — orientated towards youth — which include some, or all of the following areas: work (job) readiness, career pathing, career guidance, coaching, placement opportunities and related non-technical (‘soft’) workplace skills and information.

Please note that this request is NOT a formal bid, a request for quotation (RFQ), nor a formal request for information (RFI). This is a request extended to operators in this space to notify the Department of its work and offerings, which may inform future considerations for collaboration or partnership. The Department will conduct its own further research and engagement once submissions are received. By submitting information, it in no way obliges the Department to enter into any further discussion or agreements with the participating parties.

Interested parties are kindly requested to submit information using this link https://forms.office.com/r/FLuv7n3aXC  by midnight on 09 September 2021 to be eligible for consideration.
