Temporary Lane Closures on N2 on Sunday

30 September 2009
The N2 highway will be partially closed on Sunday, 04 October from 06:00 - 18:00 to enable precast concrete sections for the Bunga Avenue Pedestrian Bridge, currently under construction, to be lifted into position.

For traffic using the outgoing lane in the direction of the airport, the deviation will start just after the off ramp to Athlone near the old power station cooling towers. For traffic travelling on the incoming lane towards Cape Town, the deviation will start just after the Vanguard Drive off ramp.

The Bhunga Bridge is between the Athlone interchange and the Vanguard Drive interchange. Precast decks, which are presently standing on the ground in the N2 road reserve, will be lifted by crane onto the newly constructed columns.

The outgoing lane will be affected in the morning, fast lane traffic only to start with and will then be completely closed for an hour while the decks are being lifted into position. This work will take place between between10:30 and 12:00 and traffic will then be diverted to Bhunga Ave via the off ramp and then back onto the N2 via the Bhunga Ave on ramp.

Work procedures will be the same on the incoming lane, but the approximate time for complete closure will be between 14:00 and 15:30. The traffic will be deviated via Klipfontein Road using the Vanguard Drive off ramp.

Motorists are requested to use the sign posted alternative routes where possible and comply with the temporary signage and road markings that will be erected as a safety measure. Traffic Officers will be on duty to assist and facilitate the smooth flow of traffic.

The City apologises for any inconvenience caused and urges motorists to drive with care and be patient.
