Thusong Outreach Programme delivers big impact in Knysna Municipality, assisting over 500 residents
The Thusong Outreach Programme, a flagship initiative led by the Department of Local Government in partnership with various stakeholders, made a powerful impact in the Knysna Municipality during its two-day rollout held on:
- Wednesday, 25 June 2025 at Smutsville Community Hall, Sedgefield
- Thursday, 26 June 2025 at Karatara Community Hall, Karatara
This initiative brought much-needed services directly to the people—right where they live.
One of the standout achievements of the event was the incredible turnout of 521 community members who accessed government services on-site. This figure is not just a number—it represents over 500 lives positively touched by streamlined service delivery and meaningful engagement with government institutions.
From social grant registrations and ID applications to health screenings and employment support, the Thusong Outreach Programme made a wide range of essential services available—quickly, conveniently, and with dignity.
Residents embraced the opportunity to interact face-to-face with representatives from multiple government departments, voicing concerns, seeking help, and walking away with real solutions. The overwhelmingly positive response underscored just how vital and valued this outreach effort was.
By eliminating the need for long-distance travel and cutting red tape, the programme empowered hundreds and reinforced the commitment to a more accessible and responsive government. With 521 success stories in just two days, the Thusong Outreach Programme has once again proven the power of bringing government to the people.
