Minister Madikizela to Handover 100 Title Deeds in Delft, Cape Town

16 May 2016

The Western Cape Human Settlements Minister Bonginkosi Madikizela will be handing over 100 title deeds to residents from the Delft community on Monday, 16 May 2016. Twenty eight title deeds will be handed over to the elderly to give them the sense of home ownership for the first time.

The Department has spent R3.2million on this Enhanced Extended Discount Benefit Scheme (EEDBS) in Delft. The scheme supports the transfer of pre-1994 housing stock to qualifying occupants that:

  • Have a direct housing arrangement with the provincial department or municipality
  • Have not benefited from any other housing subsidy or programme
  • Have an outstanding debt with the municipality or provincial department.

The EEDBS is one of a variety of subsidies and programmes of the Department aimed at delivery housing opportunites to the people of the Western Cape.  The title deeds handover is part of the Department’s strategic goals to prioritise the elderly with housing opportunities. The handing over title deeds also gives people a sense of pride and joy that they are owners of the property they live in. The Department encourages maintenance and responsibility for those houses when handing over the title deeds.
