Metro sport federations urged to safely continue work with funding boost

15 April 2021

On Wednesday, 14 April 2021, the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport hosted the third of six ceremonial cheque handovers, where funding is handed over to sporting federations across the province.

Wednesday’s ceremony saw the acting Head of Department, Guy Redman, handing over a total of R5 193 000 to the Western Province Sport Council in the Metro. This funding will enable the affiliated sport federations to fulfill their mandate of developing and promoting their respective codes and clubs in the region.

During his address, the acting HOD reflected on 2020 and the challenges we faced and also thanked those present for continuing their work despite the challenges. He also emphasized the importance of safely moving forward with sporting activities, as sport must be part of our daily lives for bringing people together in difficult times.

A total of approximately R12.9 million will be handed over to 145 affiliated sport federations across the province during this process. The next handover will take place in the Central Karoo region on 15 April 2021.
