Media Alert: Minister Marais To Participate In Women's Day Celebrations

8 August 2017

Tomorrow, 9 August 2017, Western Cape Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Anroux Marais will be participating in a range of activities to celebrate National Women’s Day:

At 09:00 Minister Marais will join Dr Marlene Le Roux, CEO of the Artscape and women from various NGOs as they march from St George’s Cathedral to the Artscape Theatre Complex in commemoration of the Women’s March of 1956.

At 11:00, Minister Marais will officially open the Women’s Fashion Show. Designers and models are all women living with disabilities. This will be in the Chandelier Foyer of the Artscape.

At 12:00, Minister Marais will attend the book launch of  “ Women Surviving Lavender Hill” at the Artscape. This book is the product of a 2-year writing project facilitated by Kim Pillay and New World Foundation.

In publishing this book, the Foundation’s intention is for communities to understand the plight of women in Lavender Hill and how they struggle with Violence Against Women.  Violence against women is often a normalised part of community life. “Women Surviving Lavender Hill” started as a healing process for women to address the traumas they have endured.

At 14:00, in collaboration with Die Stigting vir Bemagtiging deur Afrikaans, Minister Marais will officially open the “Afrikaans Sing in Vrouestemme” Concert in the Main Opera House at the Artscape.

ALL MEDIA ARE INVITED TO ATTEND

There will be opportunities for photographs and interviews.
