The Department of Local Government in partnership with other provincial departments and the Overstrand Municipality, will be implementing an “Emergency Thusong Outreach” in Zwelihle Township to ensure citizens that were affected by the recent service delivery protests are provided with access to government services.
The purpose of this Thusong Outreach is to bring government services closer to the people who have to travel long distances to obtain identity documents, birth certificates, apply for pension, UIF or foster care grants and other government services. The Thusong Outreach will benefit the entire community of Zwelihle Township in producing new documentation that may have been lost during the recent protests.
The Department of Local Government has been responsible for the Thusong Outreach for the last 6 years, and the goal has been to ensure access to-and the continuous expansion of the basket of services provided through a coordinated approach from different government departments.
On the day, the following government departments, NGOs and other stakeholders will assist the community as follows:
Home Affairs: application for IDs and Birth registrations
Health: conduct health screening, HIV Counselling and Testing
SASSA: assist with grants and pension applications
Human Settlements: provide information on housing
Agriculture: provide general information on farming support
Social Development: assist with information on support services to families, child care and child protection
IEC: information on voter’s registration and verification of registration details
Road Accident Fund: assist with lodging of claims and awareness about service
CCMA: assist with pamphlets/brochures on raining interventions
National Youth Development Fund: assist with career guidance
