First Of Six Annual Sports Cheque Handovers Kicks Off In Beaufort West

11 April 2016

The Central Karoo District received R110 000 from the Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) in order to improve and enhance excellence in sport. The occasion took place at the Kwa-Mandlenkosi Hall in Beaufort West on Thursday 7 April 2016.

The money will be divided among three sport federations and it was handed over to them during a ceremony in Beaufort West. The federations are Safa Central Karoo, Central Karoo Netball and Central Karoo Tennis. They expressed their sincere gratitude to the department for the boost in their funding.

Beaufort West Executive Mayor Truman Prince greeted and welcomed everyone present and said: “Sport plays a critical part in South Africa. Sport is a nation builder and through sport, we can continue to build relationships.”

DCAS Minister Anroux Marais also addressed the attendees at the event and said: “We learn through history that sport has the ability to bring diverse groups of people together. My work at the department has given me the opportunity to practically experience this. We are all South Africans, unified by supporting one team, singing one national anthem and waving one flag.”

DCAS supports sporting federations with funding. The funds should be used to develop and grow local sporting talent in our communities. Let us continue to grow our sporting talent BETTER TOGETHER.
