DCAS awarded for work with EPWP

19 September 2018

The Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) recently received an award for the effective implementation of the Expanded Public Works Programme, which is aimed at creating job opportunities in various sectors. The Department of Transport and Public Works recognized DCAS for consistently providing work opportunities for beneficiaries.

DCAS partners with the EPWP to provide employment opportunities for community members. This award acknowledged DCAS for Excellence in the achievement of the EPWP Work Opportunity target in the Environmental and Culture section for the period 1 April 2017 – 31 March 2018.

Head of Department Brent Walters expressed his pride in the work the department is doing in this partnership. “We are extremely excited about receiving recognition for our efforts in the EPWP programme. This is an important programme  not only from the point of view of providing work opportunities for our young people but also from the point of view of these young people helping us with the execution of our core business. My vision is to see many more such opportunities being created. The DCAS EPWP programme is a stepping stone and opportunity for beneficiaries to learn a new skill  whilst contributing towards making the Western Cape the best socially inclusive place to live work and play… My congratulations to the administrators and line function staff involved in the programme … we are indeed proud of you all.” he said.

The department will continue to expand and investigate new opportunities within its partnership with the EPWP.
