Citizens Urged to Respect Firefighting Operations

18 January 2011

The Western Cape is currently experiencing a very busy fire season, and firefighting operations are in progress around the province.

Anton Bredell, Minister of Local Government, has urged citizens to exercise caution and apply common sense when observing firefighting operations. "We need to allow the firefighting teams the space to work safely to contain fires," he said, "Parents need to keep their children a safe distance away from the helicopters and ensure that they do not hamper the operation. We all need to work together and respect the resources being used and the hard work that is being put in to ensure that no lives are lost."

Community members are urged to maintain a safe distance when observing a firefighting operation.
