Today, Monday, 15 September 2014, Western Cape Minister of Community Safety, Dan Plato, and the Head of the Department of Community Safety in the Western Cape, Dr Gilbert Lawrence, will announce the Department’s implementation plan for the recommendations of the final report of the Khayelitsha Commission of Inquiry.
Having had the opportunity to study the detailed findings contained in the report and having consulted with provincial cabinet, departments and other entities, Minister Plato will pave the way forward towards the goal of improving the safety of the residents of Khayelitsha, Better Together.
The Khayelitsha Commission of Inquiry was established by the Premier in August 2012 based on allegations of police inefficiency in Khayelitsha and of a breakdown in relations between the community and the police in the area.
There will be an opportunity for photographs and interviews.
