2007 Provincial Farmworker of the Year Awards

The annual provincial farmworker of the year awards ceremony will take place at the Protea Hotel, Technopark Stellenbosch, tonight at 18:30 for 19:00.

The Provincial Farm Worker of the Year competition is a very important project of the Western Cape Department of Agriculture. The competition was established to give recognition to the valuable and important contribution of the farm worker towards the sustainability and growth of agriculture in the Western Cape and South Africa and showcases the calibre of farmworkers we have in the Western Cape.

The competition was initiated in 2002 in the Hex Valley by the Hex Valley Table Grape Association, with Sanlam's financial support.. The competition has grown from 36 entries in the Hex Valley in 2002 to the participation of six regions in 2006 with 404 entries. This year seven regions took part namely Breederiver Valley, Hex River Valley, Cere Bo-Op die-Berg, Piket Bo Berg, Overberg, Berg River and Kannaland.
