The department invested more than R12 million in the project. The project is unique in its emphasis on safety for patients and staff members occupying the facility and this played a very important role in the design and development of the building.

Historically facilities like this were built like prisons, but this High Care Unit does not have a single burglar bar. Rather, a very homely and tranquil atmosphere was created by the professional team.
