Logo Unveiled for George Integrated Subsidised Transport System

4 September 2013

On 4 September 2013, the Department of Transport and Public Works and the George Municipality unveiled the logo for the George Integrated Public Transport Network (GIPTN) System that is expected to come into operation in January 2014 in that city. The logo name of the system is Go George.

Darryl Jacobs, Assistant Executive Manager: Transport Operations for the Department of Transport and Public Works, says the department is expecting 90 000 boardings on the Go George every year.

Go George will run seven days a week, 18 hours a day. It will be the first integrated subsidised transport system for any secondary city in South Africa. The conclusion of negotiation of contracts is expected at the end of October 2013.

Charles Standers, Executive Mayor of George Municipality, said the city was no stranger to growth and the Go George would be a catalyst in enhancing the mobility and growth of George.

He said Go George would offer affordable, reliable, safe, cost-effective and accessible means of transport.

“This logo must become our house brand. It must grow on us and must become part our daily lives,” said Mayor Standers.

The GIPTN presentation shows the process followed to finalise the Go George logo.
