Cape Agulhas | Regional Socio-Economic Projects Programme

Cape Agulhas Local Municipality is one of the new local municipalities participating in Phase 2 of the RSEP Programme. The town of Bredasdorp has been identified for implementation of the RSEP Programme.

BREDASDORP

RSEP Focus Area:

The neighbourhoods of Simunye, Zwelitsha, Phola Park, Kleinbegin and Selfbou

Background:

Lower income communities in the town of Bredasdorp have to travel long distances to access retail and commercial facilities situated in the CBD and there are a lack of youth and social facilities which these communities can easily access. Ou Meule Street is a major north-south collector road through these areas leading to the CBD. A corridor plan for Ou Meule Street was therefore formulated by the RSEP team together with the local community and municipality, to serve as a menu of infrastructure needs and wants and to assist the identification of RSEP projects. The Ou Meule Street Corridor Task Team prioritized three projects, namely a pedestrian bridge, a LED container trader hub and a multi-purpose Anene Booysen memorial park.
