Now the 14 three-learner teams, their teachers and principals will gather again at the reserve on Wednesday, 20 September 2006 to hear the results. Although all participating schools are considered winners, a first, second and third place is inevitable. Special awards for the top team in Birding and Environmental Law will also be presented.
The Olympiad is presented in the form of an open book exam on Archaeology, Geology, Farming, Soils, History, Urban Development, Land Usage, Ecology and Environmental Law with a specific focus on the Tygerberg Region.
A special focus of this year's award ceremony will be the acknowledgement of the contribution made by the panel of specialists that so willingly make themselves available to set and mark the question papers.
The participants visited a wine farm (Altydgedacht) and a game farm (Clara Anna Fontein) in the area. They also took to the veld equipped with scopes, binoculars and guide books to experience and identify our local birds under the skilled guidance of the Tygerberg Bird Club.
