Traffic Disruption at Race Course Road

28 September 2009
Vehicles travelling along the R27 in a northbound direction (away from the city) will not be able to turn right into Race Course Road, from Tuesday, 29 September until Friday, 02 October.

Construction of the busway for Cape Town's Integrated Rapid Transit (IRT) system will be taking place in one half of the median of the Race Course Road intersection with the R27.

Narrow lanes will allow traffic turning right from Race Course Road onto the R27, towards Table View, to cross the intersection. Vehicles turning left from Race Course Road onto the R27 towards the city will not be affected by the construction in the median of the road.

No right turns from the R27 onto Race Course Road will be possible, and drivers are therefore requested to use the following proposed detour:

  • turn right onto Loxton Road
  • travel along Loxton and turn left into Koeberg Road
  • drive along Koeberg Road until reaching the left turn to Race Course Road

The City apologises to residents for the inconvenience and thanks people who travel the R27 on a daily basis for their patience during the construction. The IRT will provide Capetonians with quality, fast and reliable public transport from Atlantis into the city when it is implemented.

For more information on Cape Town's new IRT system, please visit the Integrated Rapid Transit website.

Please see the image below, the traffic disruptions mentioned above form part of Phase 2 of the construction as indicated in the image, Phase 1 has been completed.
