20 New Peace Officers/Traffic Wardens deployed in Oudtshoorn Municipality
Western Cape Minister of Police Oversight and Community Safety, Anroux Marais, has welcomed the graduation and employment of 20 new Peace Officers (POs) at the Oudtshoorn Local Municipality. In line with the Western Cape Department of Police Oversight and Community Safety’s 5-year Strategic plan to bolster and support law enforcement capacity in municipalities across the province, this partnership with the municipality was initiated in February 2025.
In collaboration with the accredited Public Training College of the City of Cape Town, Graduates underwent a 30-day Safety and Security Sector Education and Training Authority (SASETTA) accredited programme and received certification to serve as Peace Officers and Traffic Wardens. During her address at the graduation ceremony, Minister Marais urged the Oudtshoorn Municipality and the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Oudtshoorn to forge a good working relationship to improve safety in the area.
Minister Marais said,” These newly graduated Municipal Peace Officers will serve as an important force multiplier to the SAPS in Oudtshoorn. The Western Cape Department of Police Oversight and Community Safety will continue to invest in capacitating municipalities through our Peace Officer project to create jobs for young people. Every resident of this province deserves a society where law and order prevail,” she added.
