Thusong Outreach Programme brings government services to Knysna communities

The Thusong Outreach Programme, led by the Department of Local Government and its partners, is in full swing today in Knysna Municipality. Despite the cold weather, many people have come out to access various government services.

This two-day event, taking place at the following venues:

  • Wednesday, 25 June 2025 | 09h00 – 15h00 | Smutsville Community Hall, Sedgefield
  • Thursday, 26 June 2025 | 09h00 – 15h00 | Karatara Community Hall, Karatara

shows the government’s strong commitment to supporting communities across the Western Cape, especially those who need it most. The programme brings government services closer to the people, making it easier for them to get the help they need.

Services available at the event include:
✔ Help with applying for social grants
✔ ID and birth certificate applications
✔ Health checks and wellness advice
✔ Job support and assistance with labour issues

Attendees have the opportunity to speak directly with officials from different government departments to ask questions and get support.

“Our goal with the Thusong Outreach Programme is to break down barriers by bringing essential services directly to local communities—especially to those in rural areas or without transport—so everyone has a fair chance to improve their lives and build stronger communities,” said Ms. Abigail Robinson, Acting Director of Service Delivery Integration.
