Team spirit flies high at Cape Winelands Better Together Games

23 September 2019

With a windy and chilly start to the morning, the Cape Winelands Better Together Games (BTG) took place on 20 September at the Boland Park Sport Stadium in Worcester.

The games were hosted by the Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS), in partnership with Old Mutual, Nedbank and the Peninsula Beverage Company.

Minister of DCAS, Anroux Marais, welcomed all participants to the games, and wished them well. She also encouraged them to use the opportunity to get to know colleagues from the different Western Cape Government departments and the various municipalities who attended.

Despite the grey clouds, teams from across the Cape Winelands region started off the day with the traditional march-past after which they made their way to the various sporting codes that were on offer to show off their team spirit and unity, while being cheered on by their colleagues.

Popular sport codes such as sprints, tug-of-war, rugby and soccer took centre stage. As an early nod to Heritage Day, this year also saw a potjiekos making competition. The Department of Health was particularly proud of their colleague, Iveyano Vyfer, who won the 100 m sprint.

Participants could also win spot prizes from Old Mutual.

The Eden BTG will take place next, on 27 September at the De Jager Sport Complex in Oudtshoorn.

The Western Cape Government supports active lifestyles. Be part of the activities and cheer on your colleagues. Let us all be champions at the Better Together Games. BETTER TOGETHER.
