Head of Department, Thami Manyathi introduced the Public Transport Improvement Programme to delegates from the Public Transport Sector at a prestigious two day conference, held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre recently. Minister Marius Fransman was the key note speaker at the event that mainly focused on creating partnerships between the Department and the various stakeholders from the private sector such as SMME Bus Operators and the Taxi Industry.

According to Jacqui Gooch, Senior Manager: Strategic Support, the conference was also an opportunity to show case all the critical projects that our Department is currently busy delivering to fast track a better transport system for the Western Cape.

"With 2010 in mind, we envisage a huge amount of development and business opportunities that can be created from up and coming projects such as the new Shared Service Center in Athlone (replacing the Goulburn Centre) and the Back Office for the Integrated Ticketing System to be launched shortly." she said
