Minister Madikizela to visit Breede Valley Municipality

9 June 2020

The Western Cape Transport and Public Works Minister Bonginkosi Madikizela will tomorrow, Wednesday 10 June 2020, visit Breede Valley Municipality to assess the state of readiness of quarantine and isolation sites in the rural area.

While in Worcester, Minister Madikizela will continue with the drive to raise awareness in relation to public transport and visit local taxi ranks to ensure transport operators are complying with Alert Level 3 loading restrictions. He will use the opportunity to engage passengers and introduce the Department’s USSD system that has been established to report non-compliance in public transport.

The system allows for the  monitoring of Covid-19 hygiene at public transport interchanges and gives passengers a voice by sending free feedback of non-compliance in public transport by dialing *134*234# to let the Department know what kind of public transport vehicle they are travelling on, whether the vehicle is adhering to lockdown loading limits, whether the driver is wearing a mask, whether there is hand sanitiser on board, and whether the vehicle is clean and hygienic.

Minister Madikizela will also visit the family of traffic officer, Mr Johannes Willemse who passed away on 6 June. Mr Willemse was a valued member of the Western Cape Traffic Law Enforcement Directorate since 1 September 2016.
