Metro Police's High Visibility continues to Pay Off

5 October 2009
"The Metro Police Substance Abuse Unit arrested three people for drug-related offences during interventions in Cape Town central and Diep River on Friday night. In Cape Town 500g of hashish with a street value of approximately R5 000 was found on one of the suspects whilst dagga and hashish with a value of R3 500 were found in Diep River", says Wayne le Roux, Acting Deputy Chief: Metro Police.

In another operation in Fish Hoek Metro Police Officers issued 69 traffic fines at a roadblock which formed part of "Operation Razor". Forty two fines for unlicensed drivers and 23 for unlicensed motor vehicle were recorded. Eight motorists were also arrested for drunken driving offences during routine patrols across the metropole.

In Connaught Road, Elsies River a driver was arrested for reckless and negligent driving when he sped off after being requested to stop by Metro Police Officers. A high speed chase ensued and the driver lost control of the vehicle and hit a barrier on the corner of McGregor and Connaught Road. The driver was arrested on the spot and charged with reckless and negligent driving.

"Our continued presence is paying off and our members will maintain this high visibility, conducting regular roadblocks and doing house searches to root out the scourge of criminality in our communities," said Le Roux
