Metro Police use Sport in Fight against Crime

2 April 2007
Metro Police are hosting a soccer and netball tournament for youth from Guguletu, Athlone and Hout Bay at the Wynberg Military base from 09:00 on Saturday, 31 March 2007.

The event forms part of Metro Police's Social Crime Prevention Unit's Sports against Crime project which strives to involve Cape Flats youth in alternative activities such as sport.

All the participants have been chosen from games that preceded the tournament.

The project also aims at getting the youth from the various areas to communicate with each other. Metro Police envisage that through active participation and networking the youth will realise that even though they come from different backgrounds and cultures, they share the same concerns.

Community leaders will address the participants and spectators before the matches commence.
