MEDIA ALERT: Minister Plato embarks on Neighbourhood Watch and Community Policing Forum safety engagements

This week, Tuesday 25 July 2017 – Friday 28 July 2017, Western Cape Minister of Community Safety, Dan Plato, will conduct various safety related outreaches, meetings and engagements with our key safety partners in communities: Neighbourhood Watches (NHWs) and Community Policing Forums (CPFs).

This afternoon, Tuesday 25 July 2017, Minister Plato will meet with the CPFs, NHWs and local police representatives of Bonteheuwel and Bishop Lavis regarding complaints from the communities about increased gang related activities.

Tomorrow, Wednesday 26 July 2017, Minister Plato will be engaging the Kensington and Factreton CPF and NHW structures on their complaints about a lack of policing resources, increased violence and gang related activities and the havoc illegal alcohol trading is causing in their communities.

Friday evening, 28 July 2017, Minister Plato will join the Lincoln Estate NHW on an oversight walkabout, highlighting the role each community member can play to launch visible crime prevention strategies in their neighbourhoods and to help create safer communities.

Both Community Policing Forums and Neighbourhood Watches play an invaluable part in localised policing oversight and proactive community mobilisation to help increase safety and improve policing in our communities.

It is of great importance that all safety role-players in a community – NHW, CPF, police, government departments and those concerned with safety – work better together towards the shared goal of a safer community. The ongoing interactions and support of our safety structures in the province aim to continuously build these necessary relationships.

There will be an opportunity for photographs and interviews.
