Media Alert: Ministers to Paint Homes of Special Needs Housing Beneficiaries

17 July 2013

On Thursday, 18 July 2013, the ministers for Human Settlements and Social Development, Bonginkosi Madikizela and Albert Fritz respectively, will paint the new homes of two special needs housing beneficiaries and help renovate an elderly day care centre, to honour Mandela Day.

The special needs beneficiaries are 88-year old Mrs Elizabeth Williams, who suffered a severe stroke and 42-year old Mr Ridwaan Lakay, a bedridden quadriplegic. Both Mrs Williams and Mr Lakay are backyard dwellers in Delft. They will be receiving houses specially adapted for their needs at the R370 million Delft 3 and 5 housing project, which is also notable for its pioneering construction methods using Alternate Building Technologies.

After painting the houses, the ministers will lead teams of volunteers in renovating a day care centre for the elderly at Masimanyane, Delft South, along with planting a vegetable garden at the site.
