Media Alert: Minister Meyer to Attend World Cup Legacy "Dreamfields Project" at Ajax Cape Town's Ikamva

26 May 2011

On Saturday, 28 May 2011, Dr Ivan Meyer, Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport in the Western Cape, will be delivering the keynote address at the "Dreamfields Project/Life Zone" Youth Development Sports Day.

The programme, which seeks to provide sporting opportunities and life skill lessons to youth from across our nation, will host "a round robin" based football tournament for u/13 girls at Ikamva, the home of Ajax Cape Town, ending in a final match to determine the day's winner.

The girls have been competing in regional matches over the past months, with eight regions, from Gugulethu to Plettenberg Bay, emerging as the top teams for tomorrow's competition.

The Dreamfields Project has invested over R25 million in South Africa's communities, more than three quarters of that in small towns and rural areas, planting the seeds of young people's dreams in townships, informal settlements and faraway villages. Life Zone use soccer as a tool for personal and social transformation in schools and "high-risk" communities in various townships in Cape Town.
