Media Alert: Minister Debbie Schäfer to Launch New Online Database

20 August 2014

In order to ensure that as many learners as possible are placed at schools in the Western Cape, well ahead of the 2015 school year, Minister Debbie Schäfer will tomorrow, be launching a new online database that will assist the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) officials to know which learners have not secured a space at a school and to find available places for learners at schools.

The WCED will do a presentation on the new system, which will generate a list of unplaced learners in the province and indicate the number of spaces available at each school per grade.

In previous years, the WCED has always encountered challenges with the duplication of data across schools and districts. In other words, some learners enrol at more than one school, which then decreases the number of available spaces. The new system, as will be presented, has tools to ensure that there is no duplication of data in the database, allowing for immediate referral to specific schools with available spaces.

Media are invited to attend.

Date: Thursday, 21 August 2014
Time: 11:30
Venue: The Ministry offices, 23rd floor, Golden Acre, Sanlam Building, off Adderley Street, Cape Town
