Local School Hosts Chess Grandmasters at DSK International Chess Open

Today, Friday, 19 July, Western Cape Cultural Affairs and Sport Minister Ivan Meyer will open the DSK International Chess Open 2013, which will see over 400 chess players, including six Grandmasters, four International Masters and five Fide Masters, competing  in what is becoming  arguably one of Cape Town’s most prestigious chess events.

Hosted by the German International School in Cape Town, the event has once again attracted a very exciting group of elite players such as Grandmasters Seigei Tiviakov, Mark Arnold, Segei Kasparov, Kivanc Haznedaroglu, Raz Tischbierek and the current World Youth Champion, Alexander Ipatov. Beside a number of other International Masters from countries from as far afield as Turkey, Zambia, Uganda, Botswana and Zimbabwe, South African Champions  David Gluckman and Watu Kobese will also be competing.
