The Hartman Nursing Awards return

Tygerberg Hospital brings back the event celebrating nursing excellence

On 28 October 2022, Tygerberg Hospital resumed its tradition of hosting the annual Hartman Nursing Awards Ceremony. Named after the former chief matron of Tygerberg Hospital Ms M Hartman, the event seeks to recognise and reward the level of excellence and dedication exhibited by nurses in the clinical nursing field.

A total of 90 nurses have been nominated to receive this prestigious award.

This was the 31st Hartman Awards Ceremony since its start in 1990, when it was created to celebrate Ms Hartman’s retirement and the service, she provided during her tenure at Tygerberg Hospital.

“I am delighted that we can formally honour our nursing staff for their contribution made to the health system. Nurses deserve to be celebrated and commended for their hard work and dedication in providing quality health care to our patients at our facilities,” said Nomafrench Mbombo, Western Cape Minister of Health and Wellness.

The nursing staff are integral to the function of the hospital. Tygerberg Hospital nurses provide clinical accompaniment to students, aid in the development of specialised clinical nursing, while also promoting the nursing profession.

Candidates were chosen through a strict set of criteria and winners were awarded for each distinct nursing module. The event was sponsored by the Tygerberg Hospital Facility Board.
