The games encourage active participation of farm workers in the sport. They also play a major role in including marginalized sectors of the community in mainstream sport. Farm workers, previously overlooked in the sport sector are now getting the chance to showcase their talent and get a chance for recognition in mainstream sport.
This project is actively aimed at staging farm based events, bringing farm workers into mainstream sport and recreation, creating opportunities for girls and women in sport, forming club structures in farms, creating positive role models in farms and empowering farm workers to take care of their own sport and recreational programmes.
In its inaugural year, the Farmworkers Sport Day focused more on the recreational aspect of the games and this year they will become more competitive as the 2009 "Provincial Dream Team" will be selected and will compete against teams from other provinces.
Sport Codes on the day will include; Indigenous Games (dibeki, three stokkies, three blikkies), netball, rugby, soccer, cross country and will include fun activities for the entire farming community.
