Entries now open for the 2021 Western Cape Entrepreneurship Recognition Awards

We are calling on the most inspiring and resilient entrepreneurs in the province to enter the annual Western Cape Entrepreneurship Recognition Awards (WCERA). 

WCERA is the premium entrepreneurship competition in the Western Cape and recognises the achievements and potential of some of the Province’s most inspiring entrepreneurs. The competition recognises talents such as Ntombekaya (Ntombie) Nonxuba, of Rise Uniforms, who in 2020 was awarded as Entrepreneur of the Year. Rise Uniforms is a Cape Town based company located in the Philippi area. The company managed and owned by Ntombie, has operated since 2007 and was formally registered in 2010 trading as Rise Uniforms. The business is 100% black female owned and currently employs 46 people from the township.

Now in its nineth year, WCERA celebrates the hard work of entrepreneurs and their contributions to job creation and economic growth in the Western Cape. Importantly also, the winning businesses will be awarded with prize money and business support services that will help them to sustain or expand their organisations.  

During the Covid-19 pandemic the resilience, innovation and bravery of entrepreneurs is more important than ever, and through initiatives like WCERA we will continue to support and encourage these entrepreneurs. 

A total of R300,000 in prize money will be awarded to entrepreneurs across categories, including: 

• Emerging business
• Women-owned business
• Innovative business
• Township business
• Social enterprise business
• Youth-owned business

There will be one winner and one runner-up per category, resulting in six category winners and six runners-up who along with an overall winner, will be awarded at a ceremony on 25 November 2021.
