Education MEC Visits Exam Centre

28 October 2004
Western Cape Education MEC Cameron Dugmore expressed his satisfaction with the way the examinations administration is proceeding, and with the fact that there have been no major problems reported so far.

The MEC visited the Belhar Secondary School exam centre this morning and spoke to the learners, teachers and invigilators.

In a brief message of encouragement to the learners, he said: "I wish you all good luck.

"Mathematics is very important and I want learners to do well. We have a huge shortage of engineers in this country, and maths is critical in terms of building the skills profile of our future leaders.

"We are half way through, and all concerned must ensure continued vigilance, so that we do not become complacent.

"You must remain focused and continue to study hard. There are still major subjects ahead."
