Department welcomes the triple life sentence for child murderer

12 December 2017

The Department of Social Development welcomes the three life sentences handed down to Randy Tango, for the rape and murder of 11-year-old Stacha Arendse.

“We applaud Judge Robert Henney, and fully support the message that child abuse and murder will not be tolerated. All crimes against children must carry the maximum sentences allowed, sending the message that child mistreatment is unacceptable and will be severely punished,” said MEC Albert Fritz.

The Department once again applauds civil society groups and communities which have rallied together, not only in support of families which have suffered the loss of their children, but also to protect other children in their communities. Child Protection is truly a whole-of-society effort, and parents play the most critical role.

We encourage the public to immediately report any abuse to the police, visit any of our DSD local offices to speak to a social worker, or contact the DSD hotline on 0800 220 250.
