City's Tygerdal drop-off facility goes Green

20 October 2009
The City of Cape Town's Tygerdal drop-off facility in Oranje Street has recently acquired a chipping machine which is permanently on site. The machine facilitates the Solid Waste Department's waste minimisation programme as garden refuse is reduced to smaller chips which are used in the production of compost.

To support this effort, residents who are using the Welgelegen and 5th Avenue, Parow drop-off facilities for their garden refuse and green material are encouraged to use the Tygerdal drop-off facility instead.

From 09 November the Welgelegen and 5th Avenue, Parow facilities will no longer process garden refuse. All other waste or recyclables normally handled at these two sites will, however, still be accepted.
