City Warns Commuters of Mini-Bus Taxi Strike

10 August 2009
The City of Cape Town warns commuters of a minibus-taxi strike beginning on Wednesday, 12 August and would like to advise commuters to consider using alternative transport. The Western Cape National Taxi Alliance (WC-NTA) has indicated that it will be embarking on a strike.

The City has had several meetings with the Western Cape National Taxi Alliance and has negotiated in good faith to address their concerns which include traffic fines, permits and warrants for arrest.

The WC-NTA has committed to both the City and the Mayor to raise issues with the City in the interest of building good relationships.

The City respects people's right to protest, but any act of violence and intimidation will not be tolerated. The City will provide additional law and traffic enforcement in support of SAPS to prevent this. The public are asked to report any incidents of violence or intimidation to the City's Metro Police Control Centre on 021 596 1999.
