City Invites Public Comment on Gugulethu Cemetery Upgrade

20 August 2009
The City of Cape Town's Parks Department plans to upgrade the NY5/Gugulethu Cemetery and invites the public to participate in the planning process by attending one of the public meetings that will be held in Nyanga and Gugulethu.

At the meeting they can view the initial proposals and provide comment. These comments will be taken into account when the planning of the project is finalised and implemented.

The proposal will be presented as an illustrated plan. It will identify priorities for the development of the cemetery as the upgrade will occur in phases when funding becomes available.

Samantha Glen Landscape Architects has been appointed as the independent consultant to undertake the designing of the plan and facilitating public participation.

The City is also enhancing its grave identification process which will enable the bereaved to locate the graves of their loved ones more easily.
