City Hosts Workshop on Housing for People with Special Needs

The City of Cape Town's Directorate of Integrated Human Settlement Services will hold a workshop on Social Housing for People with Special Needs at the Woodstock Community Hall on Tuesday 27 March. This one day workshop will begin at 9:00. All media are welcome to attend.

Director: Integrated Human Settlements Services, Seth Maqetuka; Communicare spokesperson, Mervyn Bregman and Western Cape Shelter Focus Group Co-ordinator, Elizabeth Petersen will be among the speakers at the event.

The purpose of the event is to discuss and comment on an outline for the City of Cape Town Special Needs Housing Policy and to discuss how it will be aligned with Provincial policy

The workshop is intended to strengthen relationships between the City's Social Housing partners and Special Needs service providers, define roles and responsibilities in Special Needs housing provision and identify potential projects.

Participants will include City and Provincial housing officials, representatives of the City's Social Housing Partners, Communicare, Cape Town Community Housing Company, Social Housing Company and a wide range of service providers and welfare organisations that serve people with special housing needs.

These include organisations working with people with physical or mental disabilities, shelters for vulnerable women and children, and organisations serving victims of abuse, the homeless, people with HIV/AIDS and the elderly.
