Cape Town Welcomes the World

30 May 2010

The City of Cape Town has arranged a spectacular street festival to 'welcome the world to the Mother City', on the eve of the Fifa 2010 World Cup kick-off.

The event on Thursday, June 10 will include a two thousand (2 000) strong carnival parade, the switching on of special soccer-themed lights in Adderley Street, and a star-studded concert at Grand Parade, to signal Cape Town's hospitality for the World Cup kick off on June 11.

About seventeen thousand (17 000) revellers are expected to gather at the Fifa Fan Fest on the Grand Parade and another fifty thousand (50 000) in the streets of Cape Town's inner city.

The star-studded line-up caters for all tastes, and includes international crooner, Eddy Grant, and the Haindling Bavarian Band. All other performers are South African, including several new Cape Town acts.
