21 September 2006
South Africa's 2006 Heritage Month is already in full swing - and this year music occupies the spotlight through a series of events that culminate in a not-to-be missed day of culture at the Grand Parade in Cape Town this Sunday, National Heritage Day.

The City, the Province and the National Department of Arts and Culture will be hosting this event attended by dignitaries including President Thabo Mbeki, the Minister of Arts and Culture, Dr Pallo Jordan, Premier Ebrahim Rasool and Executive Mayor Helen Zille. President Mbeki will address the public.

The day kicks off at 09:00 with a Gospel programme. In accordance with the theme of " Celebrating our Music, Celebrating our Heritage" activities include a South African National Defence Force Parade and fly pasts, a wide variety of musical performances - traditional music, jazz, kwaito, house and mbaqanga, boeremusiek to name just a few - and an exhibition of our musical history at the Castle of Good Hope.

The line up of artists includes Sello Galane, Zola, Arno Carstens, Brasse van die Kaap, Bongo Maffin and Ihashi `limhlophe.
