On behalf of the Assembly of the elected representatives of the Regional Council of Burgundy, Mrs. Safia Otokore and myself would like to extend our deepest condolences and sympathy to the people of South Africa and to Nelson Mandela's family. The Burgundy Region is strongly attached to its long-term partnership with the Western Cape Province and shares the sorrow of its South African friends in those painful moments.
His passing is a terrible loss for the world community. Not only has the world lost a visionary statesman but also one of the greatest men on earth who tirelessly struggled to defend dialogue over conflict and peach over hatred and oppression. He devoted his life to the service of people and humanity and indeed, he changed history.
Nelson Mandela made the spirit of Ubuntu, its values of reconciliation, fraternity and universality shine far beyond South Africa. Madiba was and continues to be an inspiration for all. He always watched over us when he lived, now he will watch us for eternity and it is up to us to live up to his legacy.

Dignity, respect, friendship and forgiveness. These are the qualities inspired by your memory. Rest in peace, Madiba, never to be forgotten.

O Madiba! Madiba your ship has finally come to rest Rest now, now rest, for peace was your bequest. Humiliated, disgraced, yet in captivity you chose By embracing your enemy, you learnt and rose. Insulted, assaulted, assaulting, at fault, Lover, Soldier, for Justice, for God’s sake! Stop work, break bread, water and salt And follow in his wake.  O Madiba! Tata Madiba you who have overcome A true mandala spun, a Nelson who has won Overcoming loneliness, cowardice and fear. Bravery but a blindness brought on by all held dear. Shame, defeated, blame, defeated, fame - Let all come, let all shake, Same blood, same, all the same, And follow in his wake.

Dear Mr Mandela Thank you for your wonderful example of forgiveness, strong convictions and care for people of all walks of life. I will always cherish the brief moment that we met after your release; I will always remember your hands that were as soft as your tender love for children. I thank God that South Africa and the rest of the world were blessed to have had you as a leader. Rest in Peace. Your memories will carry us through this period and the rest of the days to come.

RIP tata madiba!!!!!

I watch some footage yesterday of that day you were released from prison and I tried to remember where I was. My children sometimes do not understand why I have to elaborately explain to them the reason behind the fact that people looked up to you. But they don't understand that through your actions, I was given a Chance, I was given Hope and most importantly I was given an Opportunity. Today I stand on my own two feet with even more HOPE for my own children. May the peace the Lord gave you now be everything that it promise to be.
