On Thursday 26 November the Western Cape Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Anroux Marais, attended the press conference and weigh-in of boxers participating in the #BoxingisBack Extravaganza on 27 November 2015 at the OR Tambo Hall in Khayelitsha.
The Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) has been instrumental in the promotion and profiling of boxing in the Western Cape. To bring the sport of boxing back to its former glory days, the DCAS, Sport and Recreation South Africa (SRSA), the Western Cape Provincial Sport Confederation (WCPSC), Western Cape Promoters Association (WCPA), Boxing South Africa (BSA) and the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) will be hosting this prestigious boxing tournament.
During her address Minister Marais said, “DCAS has made available funding to promote professional boxing in the Western Cape and has since hosted 5 boxing tournaments across the province. We have also contributed greatly towards this tournament.”
“It is our task to ensure that the Boxing is Back programme thrives and it is brought back to its former glory and thus far we have been very successful”, said Summaya Khan, Chief Operating Officer from SRSA.
DCAS and its partners work together to ensure boxing is preserved and promoted amongst the communities in the Western Cape. Let’s continue to support our boxers and boxing events so that boxing can grow, BETTER TOGETHER.
Tickets for the #BoxingisBack Extravaganza is available at Computicket for R60 or R100. The event is also televised live on SABC 2 on Friday evening 27 November 2015.
