Premier Helen Zille was among crowds that awaited the arrival of the triumphant Western Province rugby team at the Cape Town International Airport.
Western Province overcame the Sharks in a tightly contested 2012 Absa Currie Cup final to end an 11-year major trophy drought. The 25 -18 final score was a true reflection of a game played at a great temperament that had all the makings of a Currie Cup final.
The Premier had to break away from the 110% Green - Better Together Cycle Tour to meet the team. Premier Zille said the team’s achievement was a glorious occasion for the people of the province. “It’s a great day of celebration for everyone in the Western Cape,” she said.
