Media Release: Premier monitoring search operation for missing fishermen

Premier Alan Winde is closely monitoring the rescue operation of a commercial fishing trawler that sank 30 nautical miles off the coast of Cape Town, on Friday 17 May.

“I have been briefed on the situation and the search operation under way,” he said.

The Premier, along with relevant stakeholders, is closely monitoring the search for the 11 crew members of the fishing vessel who are still missing.

Premier Winde said, “I was incredibly grateful to hear that nine crew members were successfully rescued. I am keeping both the rescue teams and those still missing in my thoughts. I am also thinking of the families and the loved ones of those who are missing. My office has reached out to offer support should anything further be needed.”
